Save The Children

UX Design for Library For All App
Challenge
In mid 2022 Save The Children reached out and built a team to respond to an urgent and emerging need to deliver an educational app for families affected or displaced by the conflict in Ukraine. The organisation had previously deployed self sufficient solar powered kits with tablets to communities around the world in need. The challenge was to turn around an improved user experience and translate hundreds of publications in Ukrainian and English all within 12 weeks.
Solution
I worked closely with the publication, executive and development teams to develop and iterate the app design. The result was a greatly improved experience that included better accessibility, gamification features, smart recommendations based on profile data and improved user profile management for students sharing devices. The first batch of kits were successfully deployed in Ukraine in early September 2022 and will be evolved based on insights from children, teachers and parents that are interacting with the app.
I designed custom topic icons to allow users to explore books by topic and avatars to help differentiate between students when sharing a device. All icons and illustrations were reviewed for identifiability by education specialists.
